subiaco
more than just a suburb
Subiaco is one of Perth's most vibrant inner suburbs, with shopping centres, markets and a wealth of cafes and restaurants. When shopping in Subiaco you'll find a huge range in the stores, from jewellery and homewares to arts and a veritable feast of fashion boutiques.
Many fine old buildings have been renovated, and many homes in the are heritage listed. The Subiaco Museum on Rokeby Rd is the only remaining original municipal building in Subiaco, dating back to 1911. You'll find the Subiaco Hotel, known as 'The Subi' in the heart of Subiaco on Rokeby Road – it's one of the most popular meeting places in the area.
Theatre culture is strong in Subiaco, and the suburb is also a mecca for foodies – you may find it hard choosing from the numerous cafes and restaurants. Dominating the skyline is Paterson's Stadium, home of Australian Rules Football in Western Australia. The ground seats more than 40,000 spectators so if you hear a chorus of cheers echoing through the streets, you'll know there's a footy game on.
The easiest way to get to Subiaco is by train, it's the third stop from Perth city on the Fremantle line.
