Dining out
Food, glorious food! You might not want to break into song as you discover the plethora of restaurants Perth has to offer, but one of the most exciting aspects of the city is the enormous range of delicacies available. Perth is a city of new taste sensations, and there are restaurants and cafes which cater for every tastebud. Australia's multicultural society is never more evident than in the choice of restaurants available to diners. A wander through Northbridge on any evening will bring to your senses delicious aromas from around the globe; well-established Italian, Greek and Chinese restaurants abound, and newer to Perth but equally well-received are Indian, Thai and Vietnamese.

Fremantle and Perth are renowned world-wide for delicious fresh local treats from the ocean. The port city's restaurants are mostly situated along the water, with a variety of specialty dishes including barramundi, tiger prawns, lobster, and the delicate and subtle flavoured marron (freshwater crayfish). Japanese cuisine has started to take hold in Perth - the popularity of these restaurants attests to the freshest raw seafood used for sashimi and sushi. Mouth-watering steaks are also a speciality of many Perth restaurants, particularly those using Harvey beef from WA's South West dairy region, and will tempt all but the vegetarians.

Visitors should be aware of liquor licensing laws in Western Australia. Alcohol cannot be served to those under 18, and proof of identification may be required if your waitstaff are unsure. A passport is usually sufficient. You should also be aware that smoking in restaurants is limited to certain areas; your waitstaff will advise.

With the variety of fine dining establishments in and around Perth and Fremantle, we are sure you will not be disappointed for choice.

Western Australian Wine & Beer
A visit to Western Australia presents you with a golden opportunity to sample some of the best wine in the world. Our warm climate, combined with relatively high rainfall, is perfect for producing almost all grape varieties. With the Swan Valley on our doorstep and the world-renowned Margaret River wine region just a few hours away, Perth is a great place to sample some new wines, or just to remember an old favourite. If you don't have time to visit these areas yourself you will find most restaurants and 'bottle shops' will stock a good range of local wines, as well as those from other states and overseas. Staff will be able to recommend different wines depending on your tastes and dining intentions, so don't be afraid to ask for advice.

Australia is in the top ten nations of the world for beer consumption (per head of population) - so naturally we know a thing or two about it! Perth is home to large brewing companies who export across the country and overseas, and has smaller boutique breweries who create new taste sensations on a regular basis. For the beer connoisseur, Perth can be a very exciting place!

Swan Brewery is WA's own major manufacturer of 'regular' beer, as much a local icon as the black swan on its logo. You can find its 'Swan' and 'Emu' beers on tap at most pubs throughout the state, and also in bottle shops. A word of warning - Emu Bitter is not for the faint-hearted! Matilda Bay Brewery is the largest of Perth's 'gourmet' breweries, and their products include Brass Monkey Stout and Matilda Bay Pilsner, but their signature beer, which most locals will swear by, is Redback. This wheat beer is refreshingly thirst quenching with plenty of flavour, and no visit to WA is complete without sampling it. The Little Creatures Brewery in Fishing Boat Harbour, Fremantle has two standout products, the Pale Ale and the easy-drinking Rogers beer. Set inside a massive converted boat shed, the cellar door bar and restaurant are open seven days till late.
